Is counselling for me?

If you are considering counselling the following may help you to check how you feel about engaging with the counselling process.

How willing are you to engage with counselling?

Do you need more information about what counselling involves before you feel comfortable enough to find a counselling service that can help you? (see the section called ‘Counselling’ on this web site or call us for more information).

Taking the first step is sometimes the most difficult but some people find it empowering or liberating to have reached a point where they want help or space to explore their circumstances further.

It is important that you make the decision for yourself rather than being ‘sent along’ by someone else.

What do you want out of counselling? What is it you would like to achieve as an outcome?

Counselling can often be demanding, challenging, revealing and you might consider how willing you are to challenge yourself about your situation.

How much do you want to change? (How willing are you to change aspects of your life that you currently find difficult?)

How willing are you to talk about yourself and your life experiences?

How in touch are you with your feelings?

How easy is it for you to talk about your feelings?
